The goal of all development is integration:
“Having pervaded this entire universe with a fragment of myself, I remain.” The pull of that overshadowing “remaining Self” is what draws the little fragment back to its originating source.
In relation to integration we can say that unity has to do with a relationship in consciousness. Life is One-no more distinctions, but only identification. The whole identifies itself with the parts of itself. Integration leads to synthesis and emerges in units of consciousness provided that these units acknowledge the presence of the one life in each part. Because we deal with the whole, synthesis has to do with the universal. All separation is overcome by it. All opposites disappear in the one. Joy and sadness, good and evil disappear when they are recognised as having only a temporary existence. The inner and outer life fuse. All that come to be within the original thoughtform of the planetary Logos is gradually brought into synthesis by the planetary Purpose. But this occurs in many phases and steps of integration; each time a broader and larger synthesis is brought about, from synthesis on the level of atoms to synthesis on the level of consciousness to the general identification with the Whole. This takes place because the instinctive inclination to fuse and unite is part of the entire universe. This expresses itself in the many societies, unions, associations, groups, and alliances. This instinct of integration is the guarantee of ultimate synthesis.
How does man fit into this process? Like any separate principle, we are apprentices in Synthesis and integration. We learn to evolve in our own bodies, swimming in our own information that we seize and reconstruct as fully and as incompletely as is our own understanding of ourselves. this ideas we grasp all have the goal of guiding us toward our higher reality. As for our thoughts, they are distorted reflections of ourselves, that reality from which we are abstracted. Man is the constant expression of the synthesis of his own thoughts and when they put him in alignment with the reality of The Thought that contains them, he becomes more integrated. What we are, the quality of our expression, depends entirely on the quality of all our thoughts. All are obligatorily perceptions of ourselves, as much as the idea we have of our neighbour, the sun, or of an abstract concept that we project incessantly without realizing it.
To succeed on this Path of Return in an efficient accelerated way we have to make use of the will which is latent in all of us. This aspect of will is present at the centre of the causal body. But because for the moment it is still impossible to reveal that Jewel in the Lotus, we have to limit ourselves to the use of the will of the personality. This is related to the will of the soul through the Petals of sacrifice in the lotus of the soul. One of the qualities of the personal will is perseverance. It is this quality we can call on and use to walk on the Path of Return. Together with another quality of the will, that of determination, we can bring the purpose of synthesis and integration even nearer. This is because the ultimate characteristic of will is the expression of the self that produces synthesis. In this way, at the end of the Path of Return, synthesis is reached by the use of constant effort. The separation at the departure of the hero has been nullified and the separated parts are fused again into ONE.
Integration as a personality.
The aim here is:
1. A stable mental body—positive in reception from above and negative to lower vibrations.
2. An astral body that is clear and still.
3. A physical body with steady nerves and stable rhythm.
All this is achievable through the eight means of Yoga, [The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.] or eventually by evolution or life itself. This is the longest stage of integration.
This is the first integration and concerns the blending of the lights of the three lower bodies into the one clear light of the personality. To produce a clear, potent, lighted personality, the integration of the three bodies [physical-etheric, emotional and mental bodies] is essential so that we may have an instrument of balanced sensitivity and of rhythmic invocation for the use of the soul as it desires to express its divinity on earth. We have to learn to function consciously as the Thinker on the mental plane and to know that we are so functioning; to react as the Feeler on the emotional plane with due and careful attention to the nature of the feeling evoked; we must then see the results of this organised and controlled thinking and feeling as it conditions the activities of the Actor on the physical plane. The emotional integration is the hardest. The disciple has to free himself from the inner emotional storm in which he finds himself living. He must recognise that his integration is weak, for he is working in two phases or sections: Physical-emotional and mental-soul. He is sometimes one and sometimes the other. This duality must be brought into closer relation and this is the point to which he must attend as he seeks to establish and preserve the needed synthesis and personality-soul integration.
This phase is wherein a conflict rages between personality and soul. The soul begins to seek liberation from form life and yet—in the last analysis—the personality is dependent upon the life principle, conferred by the soul. The conflict between the soul ray and the personality ray starts and the war is on between two focused aspects of energy. This conflict terminates at the third initiation.
A man can be regarded as a personality in truth when the form aspect and the soul nature are at-one.
Integration with the soul. This is the second integration, the light of the personality with the light of the soul. As we have accustomed ourselves to the responses of this integration, we will discover the amazing fact that it is the soul who is the Thinker, the feeler and the Actor, that the divine nature of the soul is controlling the lower threefold expression or instrument. This stage is called the “Touch of Enlightenment”, and through the bringing together of the Forces of the purified personality and those of the “approaching” soul, a “light is engendered which fadeth not away.”
The control by the soul is the final phase leading to the death and destruction of the personality. The light of the Angel then obliterates the light of matter.
It is primarily the phase of the final stages of the Probationary Path and its carrying forward to completion upon the Path of Discipleship. It is the stage of the practical and successful server; it is that wherein the entire focus and output of the life of the man is dedicated to the fulfilment of hierarchical intent. The man begins to work on and from levels not included in the three worlds of ordinary evolution, but which nevertheless have three effects and their planned objectives within those three worlds.
Integration with the New Group of World servers.
Who are the New Group of World Servers really? We are given the following information:
The emergence of a band of “conditioning souls”, under the name of the New group of World Servers, has been possible since 1925. They can now come in because of the work already done by the group of souls who hastened their entrance into incarnation, under the impulse of the Hierarchy. These souls, because of their point in evolution, because of their stage in unfoldment and because of their impressibility to the group idea and to the Plan, can come into incarnation and begin, more or less, to work out that Plan and evoke a response to it in the human consciousness. They are thus in a position to “prepare the way for the coming of the Lord”. This latter is a symbolic phrase indicating a certain level of spiritual culture in humanity. They are sometimes dimly conscious of this stupendous task, but they are, in the majority of cases, quite unconscious of their “qualifying” destiny. As souls, under the guidance of the Hierarchy and prior to incarnation, they are conscious of the impulse to “go in and help the sorrowing planet and thus release the prisoners held in durance hard by low desire”, but once the garment of flesh has been assumed, that consciousness too dies out and in the physical brain they are not aware of that which their souls have purposed. Only the urge for specific activities remains. The work nevertheless proceeds.
The NGWS is a pioneering group mediating between Hierarchy and Humanity and the Interface between two kingdoms.
So, it looks to me that if you are one of the above mentioned souls, that you will automatically integrate yourself to the New Group of World Servers.
Now we can understand why some individuals move gradually towards a synthesis of soul and personality. They have developed their sense of belonging to the One humanity. They dominate the mass of men and woman, because they are aware of divisions at the root of global problems facing humanity today. They seek to exercise global citizenship. For these individuals it is clear that the international problems can not be improved until some of the factors concerning separation are dealt with, that is to say, when the fundamental differences i.e., racial, cultural, religious-of each nation will be recognized as distinctions in a unity enriched by diversity. Their goal is to create a common and unifying future that responds to the present collective needs, given the variety of backgrounds. To this, the quality of spiritual integration of each national representative is crucial and demands from each individual member a constant vigilance in finding and maintaining its own internal unity, because the pitfalls of separation and division, [the antithesis of integration], are always present. The national ambitions and personal motives are the reasons: we are fighting among governments and political parties to defend peace and economic stability and fraternity. We oppose the “otherworldism”, when the goal is not to undo the unification of the planet but to control the process of globalization in order to transform all threats whether they be capitalist or environmental, into opportunities for humanity. As long as our minds will reason in terms of individual conscience or national economics and borders, global problems can not be resolved. They can only be by good will and individual susceptibility to global visions and actions. Human development proceeds through a series of integrations, coordination, and the constant linking of the heart and mind. Consciousness of All emerges when union of the two poles takes place. It brings to the human being in the world the meaning and vision of the divine plan, which allows access to the understanding of its responsibility towards the whole. The result of this process is the transfiguration of the being and the transformation of its environment.
This evolution correlates with the laws of the universe and nature that leads to synthesis. When man allows the universal spirit to flow through him, he awakens to higher vibrations and becomes part of a true community, where he experiments with right human relationships, super human and subhuman, he offers his creative powers to the service of the Group, and gradually is completely absorbed by the soul. His unification efforts, through integration, are supported by forces related to the Law of Attraction and the Principle of Consistency contained in the Great All of which he is an Integral part.
It is interesting to observe that the energy of synthesis work in human affairs through the formation of large multinational entities, in corporate and financial groups. Some of them even seeking to control the global field that concerns them to the detriment of all: people and nations. By this example, we see the new energy received and manipulated with a consciousness ill equipped to receive it, that of the individual consciousness. The struggle between the old and the new is now engaged. The sustained effort of the NGWS is essential for this stage, and to embody the fragment of the Plan made Available for the current evolution of humanity. We can reach our real target only if we are united and become one with our own soul and let it guide our lives. That is why we aim for integration and unity in us and worldwide. That means that globalization is actually the force that unites and liberates progressively. It will help us in this time of transition to find the path in the next form of human organization.
Looking at their activities from the standpoint of Hierarchy, their work is to facilitate the entrance of soul energy, which energy expresses itself in love and in good will. This in its turn results in peace-individual, racial and planetary-and the great group aspect of the approach will be brought about, [integration into the group], and is today in process of being carried forward. We also know by now the following: Through the impression and expression of certain great ideas, humanity must be brought to the understanding of the fundamental ideals which will govern the New Age. This is the major task of the New Group of World Servers.
These members come from all nations, all races and religions. they are chosen by the ability to respond to the spiritual opportunity offered. They are driven by the desire to serve selflessly. They boast a high tolerance, a healthy reasoning and a sense of right proportion. They have established a sufficient connection with the soul, the only recognised authority. Their disciplined life integrates the reliance on and recognition of the divine Plan, still in their level of consciousness. Through the work of occult meditation and study of the teachings of the Ageless Wisdom, they learned to work mentally and to become receptive to ideas from the soul, which has knowledge of the Plan. Thus, they respond to the rhythm that inevitably widens the groove and imprint on the human consciousness, the new ideas perceived. They reflect the consciousness in the chain of followers and initiates acknowledge those they can help, their peers who work with them to the salvation of humanity and elder brothers, ready to learn what they need to communicate. They agree to submit to the process of change from within or education by the divine order to develop an intelligent and cooperative understanding. Their influence is largely subjective at the moment, the work taking place on the mental plane. one of the activities of the NGWS is to built the planetary Antahkarana: the bride between the concrete mind of the personality and the abstract mind of the intuition and lower part of the Spiritual Triad. Through occult meditation, it actively participates in the work of synthesis, “the force that brings together what has been separated” the two aspects of mind.
Integration into the Hierarchy.
At this stage we are talking about establishing coordination between the soul, the purified personality and the Hierarchy. This is the goal of the initiates in the world at this time, and of all who are in preparation for the first, the second and the third initiation. This consummation is only achieved at the third initiation, the Transfiguration. It is only after this initiation that the Monad is definitely guiding the Ego, pouring His divine life ever more into the Prepared and cleansed channel.
Again, a vision is accorded of what lies ahead; the initiate is in a position at all times to recognise the other members of the Great White Lodge, and his psychic faculties are stimulated by the vivification of the head centres. The aim of all development at this time is the awakening of the spiritual intuition; when this has been done, when the physical body is pure, the astral stable and steady, and the mental body controlled, then the initiate can safely wield and wisely use the psychic faculties for the helping of the race.
Integration with the Whole.
The third stage of the Path is the Path of Initiation. This is reached when the personality begins to function as an instrument of soul. Then one succeeds in reaching the point of equilibrium and the escape of the pairs of opposites [they remain of course but they no longer have any influence over one’s actions]. The power of the mental body now increases. One by one illusions are shattered and the first great initiation [the third] draws nearer. On the Path of Return the Antahkarana is being built-the first part of the bridge. The first half of the bridge is built in mental matter. The characteristics of the Path of Return results from building the antahkarana. It is the thread of consciousness within the bridge that carries us from where we are back up to the Source from where we started our journey on our path of involution in the great cycle. This continues until the soul and the personality fuse in full consciousness: the soul-infused integrated personality is revealed. The two become one and the first great unity on the Path of Return is accomplished. When the second union is reached it leads to liberation from the three worlds. Then the initiate reaches the Path of Life. This second union is reached when the second part of the bridge has been built from the soul to the lowest point of the Spiritual Triad, i.e. the Higher or abstract mind. Here the bridge is built by light substance.
We are here talking about an initiate of the fourth degree and beyond. The life of a man who takes the fourth initiation or Crucifixion, is usually one of great sacrifice and suffering. It is the life of a man who makes the Great Renunciation, and even exoterically it is to be strenuous, hard, and painful. He has laid all even his perfected personality, upon the altar of sacrifice, and stands bereft of all. All is renounced, friends, money, reputation, character, standing in the world, family, and even life itself. It also leads to the last remaining and ultimate integrations. The initiate is admitted into closer fellowship in the Lodge, and his contact with the devas is more complete.
After the fifth initiation the man is perfected [through integration] as far as this scheme goes, though he may, if he will, take two further initiations. To achieve the sixth initiation the Adept has to take a very intensive course in planetary occultism. A Master wields the law in the three worlds, whilst a Chohan of the sixth initiation wields the law in the chain on all levels; a Chohan of the seventh initiation wields the law in the solar system.
The effect of increasing integration on the daily discipleship expression in service.
The disciple should ask himself: What am I doing, as a soul [if functioning as a soul at all], to raise my matter aspect, my three vehicles and the substance out of which they are made, on to higher planes of expression?
On the path of probation one works at one’s own character and tries to integrate the nature and Qualities of the soul into the personality. The seeking human being will then become more sensitive to the higher vibrations due to the integration of more subtle matter in the vehicles. On the path of discipleship the lower self, starts to react more consciously and faster to the Higher Self. The biggest obstructions are the ensouled forms which one has produced constantly. Progressively, the mind begins to control the emotional nature and the seeker comes to the point where the life-struggle is continued, but now in a general and impersonal way.
The initial objective before the mass of aspirants and students is, first of all, to integrate the lower threefold man, so that they may become functioning personalities, prior to becoming functioning souls; the work is dedicated to the purpose of producing a conscious personality focus, whilst avoiding that cycle of incarnations wherein the personality is dedicated to lower and selfish ends. This will lead to a higher integration of soul and personality, leading to that final integration which brings on the highest aspect of all, that of monadic life.
Study and meditation combined are the factors which all aspirants should employ if they seek to produce this needed integration and a consequent life of service. Thus the aspirant can test out both his point of integration and the extent of the serving quality produced by this integration. If aspirants would study their physical plane life with care, they would discover that they are either working automatically in response to physical plane conventional ideas of goodwill or of being kind, or they are working emotionally because they like to help, they like to be liked, they like to relieve suffering, they believe in following the steps of the Christ Who went about doing good, or because of a natural, deep-seated life tendency. This is a hopeful and finalising unfoldment.
Aspirants will eventually find out [when the physical and emotional phases of the integration are over] that there follows a phase of intelligent service, motivated in the first instance by mercy, then by conviction of its essentiality, then by a stage of definitely spiritual ambition, then by a submissive following of the example of the Hierarchy, and finally by the activity of the quality of pure love; this pure love increasingly expresses itself as the higher integration of soul and personality proceeds. All these phases of integration and of techniques are right in their own place, just as long as they have teaching value, and whilst the higher next phases remain vague and nebulous. They become wrong when they are perpetuated and carried on when the next stage is clearly seen but not followed. These varying phases of integration are being carried forward, under evolutionary law.
All these steps upon the way of integration lead to that culminating stage wherein the personality—rich in experience, powerful in expression, reoriented and dedicated—becomes simply the mediator of soul life between the Hierarchy and Humanity.
Despite of all our efforts and our best will, we shouldn’t forget to live and to admire the beauty of nature. Nature presents us in a direct and in a symbolic way the perfection to which we aspire through our integration process. Even the smallest flower has its sacred geometry-the one we try to find in us. We shouldn’t lose this amazing admiration, otherwise, we might lose an opportunity.
